      Upneeq in Raleigh, NC

Are you tired of your eyes looking tired? Do you constantly get asked if you’ve had a good night’s sleep? Does your eye makeup disappear under drooping eyelids?

If any of these sounds like you, then set your tired eyes on Upneeq – the only FDA-cleared prescription for low-lying lids (acquired ptosis). Upneeq eye drops help lift the eyelids with many patients seeing results on the very first day (some within minutes).

Upneeq lifts your eyelids to open your eyes, improving your appearance, and can also help with reading, driving, and using your computer. As a non-invasive treatment, Upneeq is a great alternative to eyelid surgery.

If you’d like to learn more about how Upneeq can improve low-lying eyelids or if you want to be evaluated for acquired ptosis, book your consultation today with our medical aesthetics team.

What is Acquired Ptosis (Low-Lying Lids)?

If your eyelids appear to droop, especially if they droop over your pupils, you may have low-lying lids. Millions of people have acquired ptosis and most of them don’t even know it. In fact, only 15% of people with low-lying lids have ever had any treatment.

Low-lying lids usually develop later in life and are typically caused by the muscles in the eyelid becoming weak and stretching. This causes the eyelid to droop and can make you appear tired or sleepy.

There are other medical conditions that can cause low-lying lids and it’s important to be evaluated by one of our aesthetic nurses to determine if the cause needs additional evaluation.

Not only do low-lying lids make you look tired, but they can also interfere with your vision. You might find yourself tilting your head back to see more clearly, having trouble reading, or driving.

How Upneeq Can Help Low-Lying Lids?

Upneeq prescription eye drops can lift the eyelid in as little as two hours – some as fast as five minutes.

Upneeq is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that causes a certain muscle in the eyelid (Muller’s or Mueller’s muscle) to contract. This contraction raises the upper eyelid causing the eyelid to open up.

By stimulating the eyelid muscle, the eyes appear more open and you appear well-rested. After you use the eye drop you can see results in as quick as a few minutes and the benefits last eight to twelve hours.

Our aesthetic medical team will write a prescription for Upneeq and advise you on how often to use it. Typically, one drop in each eye, once a day is recommended.

      Side Effects of Upneeq

Upneeq is generally well tolerated, but some patients may experience eye irritation, redness, or dry eye. Eye pain and headache may occur but all of these side effects happen less than 0.5% of the time.

      Is Upneeq Right for Me?

Upneeq is great regardless of how severe your eyelid ptosis is.

Certain medications can interfere with how well Upneeq works so make sure you share all of your current medications, including any use of other eye drops, with our team to ensure it will be safe and effective.

If you take medication for your blood pressure, or have been diagnosed with narrow-angle glaucoma, you may not be a candidate for Upneeq.

      Upneeq After Botox Injections

Upneeq is the perfect complement to your Botox injections! Many patients rely on Botox to create elevation in their brows when age or genetics causes them to be heavy or flat. Now Upneeq can be paired with Botox to offer that perfect, bright-eyed appearance without surgery.
